Original oil painting by Sally West painted en plein air at Freshwater Beach (NSW)
Sally West regularly visits Freshwater Beach to paint en plein air. Freshwater, colloquially referred to as “Freshy,” is a beautiful iconic Australian beach on the East Coast of New South Wales with great waves and white sandy shore.
Sally has found a particular position high up on a rock platform, giving her the perfect aerial perspective to paint while overlooking the surfers and swimmers. She fondly refers to this place as her “hot-rock” as it’s best to visit on sweltering summer days when the water is blue and there are lots of beachgoers to paint. Over the past few summers Sally has been working on an entire series of works based on this spectacular view. She says “I love painting the view, it’s constantly changing”.
